Hello all! I have been busy with work, and play rehearsals, but mostly with school. And now school is over and I have things to show you and life is good :)

It's been a long time since I posted, yeah? Life is keeping me quite busy lately with school, and work, and mountains of homework (and procrastinating that homework). Mostly I've just been creatively blocked though.
I'm on spring break right now, and it is flying past!
I... actually don't have much art to show for myself but here's some of what I've got finished:
First painting for acrylic class. To be honest I wasn't terribly excited about doing still life #2340778547601287541... so I came up with a little story to go along with this one.
If I were to represent my dad with one kind of food, it would be lemons. He loves citrus fruit. Like to the point of it being practically a religion. And in this citrus religion, lemons are without doubt the holiest fruit.
So, you know how in some religious paintings angels/holy figures/whatnot are surrounded in a halo of light? Yeah.

Then the other day I realized I've never drawn anyone but the boys in the spn universe. And I had to remedy that. So I did, with ( Bobby! )

First up, a little doodle that I inked and colored (and maybe shouldn't have, because I'm really not that happy with it.) It's, um, trying at least, to be an illustration for part 20 of fleshflutter's Dark Side of the Moon (Sam/Dean NC-17). Though it definitely dose not do the story justice.

And also a sketch from my life drawing class that happened to be in the same sketchbook and I thought the lighting was cool so... Naked man back, but you can't actually see anything.

2 finals down, 3 to go!!! If I survive til Friday I will have new things to post!
I really want the week to be over already, and at the same time I really want Wednesday to never come and Thursday to not come for a few more weeks so I can study a LOT more. Any way this can be arranged?
I hate finals.
On a more positive note, I had a really nice art class; all I had to do was show some of my arts, and everyone was very nice and complimentary. And then eat potluck sweets. And someone recognized Jared from his picture. And I hope I did enough to get an A. |

I had a really bad art class today. Some days the ol' drawing hand works and some it doesn't, I guess. But I have been feeling very art motivated lately. We've got to make our own homework assignments for ourselves again in my life drawing class (in addition to what the teacher gives us to do). And I'm pretty sure I want to combine all the ideas I stated in my last art post (I think that's where I said it?) with the emphasis on the storytelling/illustration part. But I still don't know how many I'll need to do... I did 6 portraits (for first half of semester), but those were fairly large and I tried to make them as finished as possible (and I don't know yet if they met the teachers expectations, as I haven't gotten them back yet). Then I also have to figure out what I want to illustrate, make each one for a different story, all for one story, a few different stories... I wonder if I could get away with illustrating fanfic :D??
On that note, I was thinking about maybe doing some kind of drawble type thing, where people could write me a little descriptive something, and I could try to draw, you know, as practice. Also, I think it would be fun. Would anyone be interested in maybe doing that?? does anyone know how I could advertise such a thing to find people who would want to do that??
Anyhoo enough talk, on with the arts.

Lately, possibly because I've been super busy with midterm activities, and definitely because I now have many new things to post, I've been wanting to, well, post a bunch of stuff. I have 6 portraits for my proposal work for life drawing class and some miscellaneous odds and ends I've finally got put on my computer. And I'm considering uploading some nekkid people that I drew in class and a couple of quick sketches I did when I went to the zoo, but I haven't done that yet.
So... I don't think I'll actually put any of them in this entry though, ahaha. But they will be up very shortly.
I hope everyone had a nice Halloween! Mine was spent in class and it was basically lame-city, but the Saturday before I was a zombie school girl and it was excellent. I found some face-paint you put on like watercolor, it was SO fun!
A few other quick notes to mention in the ever exciting life of Sarah: I purchased both seasons of SPN, and I'm now all the way caught up with my show for the first time ever (well, except I haven't seen this latest episode yet because on Thursday nights I have to learn about the wonders of political science instead of watch tv), and I got my learners permit so I am now officially on my way to maybe one day even driving a car for real. |

School is officially back, and I've now had all 5 of my classes once. I applied for a job. I was woken up by people trimming the trees right outside my window (so basically chainsaw three feet from my head). I'm tiiierd.
I don't seem to be totally coherent yet.
I'm taking life drawing again and because it's life drawing 2 (instead of 1...) I get to do the advanced homework and it's all... cool. First two homework assignments are 1)copy a drawing by Da Vinci and 2)come up with a proposal for my own homework for the first half of semester (she'll continue to give us assignments as well). I'm not usually excited about homework, but now I really kinda am. I have a couple ideas: work on faces (3 drawings working on likeness, 3 on expressions, 3 of those 6 in color, or something like that??), working with watercolor (at home translate some of the work done in class into watercolor and turn in 5 large watercolors by midterm), or work on drawing men (because women are much easier for me and I would like to even it out some... but I don't know what I'd give myself to do for this one).
I'm also excited, and nervous, about my musical theater class.
As for the other 3... well at least they are only one semester long!

Ok! So, triptych.
My final assignment for the watercolor class I took last semester (and have to turn in... Tuesday?) The teacher made this one pretty wide-open in terms of subject matter and that actually seemed to make it harder for me to decide what to paint. I think I like having a box so I can be creative and work my way out of it. If there is no box, I don't know what to do with myself, haha.
Anyway the concept that finally stuck is to do a nontraditional portrait: I wanted to see how much personality I could convey (without showing the face), using body language, clothes, colors, etc. I got my sister to pose, I told her to dress however she wanted and took her to the front yard to take pictures. I chose three we both liked and started drawing and ended up with this:

Then I kind of liked them and was scared to mess them up by painting them, haha. Though as it's a painting class I had to paint them.

Anyway as I've said, any feedback/suggestions on these would be greatly appreciated!

Lots of random things that are going on with me. Sheesh, I never know what to say in here or how to start. I am not good at starting conversations either.
Okay, so here is my epic tale of how I long to scan things onto my computer that are not made hideous by my new scanner, I had a few ideas about how to potentially solve my problem, and my house-wide search begins ( in other words, I am very boring )
Speaking of things I would like to post, I have these three paintings. A triptych. They were my final assignment for watercolor last semester and then I got swamped and lost all creative inspiration and was sooo stuck and switched ideas for my project about a million times and ended up taking an incomplete... So they are done now. I finally found an idea that felt right and I'm actually pleased. Though, I feel in the last step which was the, you know actual painting of my paintings... something is just not quite... on. They need something. And I'm not sure what. And I would lovelovelove any and all comments/advice about them! You could tell me "those are nice" and I would love you because I crave validation like that. You could tell me "those are an incredible waste of paper and paint, did you seriously take all that time to come up with this shit??" and I would, after I finished crying that is, love you for offering me your opinion ^^
Anyhoo all of that is really to say, if I put them up (because they are too big to scan and I would be taking pictures of them even if I had a terrific scanner. So I could put them up tomorrow), will anyone look them over? How would I go about enticing people to look at things I've made which are not fanart??
I'm beginning to think I start every sentence with "so", you wouldn't believe how many I just edited out of this post.

Bah, I am very long-winded tonight. In other Sarah news: I cut all my hair off, I am developing an addiction to ice tea (I love iit! I want some right now), I saw a bad-side-of-mediocre play tonight, I have a toffee almond bar in my room and I want to eat it and watch Arrested Development right now. Also I'm getting my wisdom teeth and I don't sleep. I think that pretty much brings you up to date with my life at this moment. Oh alsoalso I'm feeling creative again and I have this urge to make non-2d art (which is kind of unusual) and I want to make an art/collage/scrapbook/diary thing. Maybe I will. |

Wow, it's been awhile. It feels like a lot longer than it really has been though, my life has been uncharacteristically active and eventful.
I was in a play. I turned 20 a couple of days ago. I've been very social lately.
I'm trying to pick my classes for fall. I need to find a job. And learn how to drive.
And become an adult. At least in a sense of becoming more responsible.
I haven't been drawing. My scanner makes me want to cry a little bit.
But I uploaded this for you all anyway:

I'm very excited about all this Harry Potter business that's been happening lately. Though I haven't yet read the book or seen the movie. And I don't really want it to be over. Kind of a lot. I was thinking about it today and was suddenly very sad and nostalgic. And like I said, I haven't even read it yet. |

Annnd now it's time for my other bigbang story!
And The Loser Has To Do It Twice
I've decided I'm forbidden to do portraits! No more floating heads... for a little while. The new rule is that the next ten things I draw have to have full bodies, more than one person, action, tell a story, something. Because I'm boring myself.
So anyway here's number 1 (which happens to have all of the above)

ETA: Also, not specifically for this story, but since there just has to be a zombie, I can't resist. Zombie! Plus, I did this pre scanner crisis/art block, so I don't hate it, yay \0/
ETA2: I felt like fixing this up a little... So ta-duh, the new and improved big bang number two! (I am incapable of taking a straight picture, so just fyi, the border and everything is actually not bendy in real life.) |

It's that time. My turn has come up in spn_j2_bigbang!
I love the story I got SO much, my author is wonderful, and you should go read Swear By All The Flowers right now!
Okay now the art.
I'm sorry but I have to whine vent a little bit because this story gave me such strong, wonderful mental imagery, I had so many ideas. But when I tried doing the actual drawing/painting I found out I'm having post semester art block. It was just frustrating, nothing worked. Finally tonight I decided to scrap the old stuff and start fresh. I did some portraits in pencil. I wish I had something more interesting, but, it is what it is.
And then I discovered the real problem... The only art program I have on the new computer is paint, and that's the only thing I can find that will let me scan pictures. And they come out looking so awful! I'm embarrassed to be putting these things up *sigh*, but I've tried everything and this is all I can get. I'm going to beg the use of my sisters digital camera later and hopefully I'll be able to replace these with something better. But for now, and just in case I can't. So I'm not left with nothing to show for myself, here are:
ETA: Now I have some photos! Not the best I could have hoped for, but I hope they can be enjoyed anyway? Also, my sister is a life saver.

It feels really good to be able to cross some things off of my to-do list!
Though, I still feel a lot like the least productive person on the planet. So much more to do, ugh.
I'm having a good day today. I had a really short class which I was not late to. I saw a turtle. I got a delicious lunch. And now I've even got the computer to myself AND a quiet house, at least for a little while. It's pretty awesome.
Think I'll go work on my bigbangs. And not think about the audition I have later :S |
